Una detective tras la pista de un asesino psicótico descubre el amor en un momento peligroso en este thriller, basado en la novela de Michael Pye. Illeana Scott (Angelina Jolie) es una agente especial del FBI que tiene la reputación de utilizar métodos poco convencionales, pero también cuenta con un sólido historial como perfiladora criminal. Scott es llamado por un ex colega de Quantico (Tcheky Karyo) para ayudar a dos detectives de la policía canadiense, Paquette (Olivier Martínez) y Duval (Jean-Hugues Anglade), que están tras la pista de un asesino en serie que ha estado haciendo negocios en Montreal y sus alrededores durante casi dos décadas.
