• An unusual band for Lookout Records punk-pop roster -- which includes the likes of Screeching Weasel, the Pattern, the Queers, and the Eyeliners -- the Oranges Band play pop music that sounds more like the Smiths or the Fall with no particular punk influence. Singer/guitar player Roman Kuebler, formerly of the Thumbs, plays jangly chords and has a pleasant, expressive voice … la Morrissey. But the Oranges Band are anything but a wannabe Smiths-type project. This Baltimore, MD, quartet rock a bit harder than the Smiths and their drummer comes up with some nice, original beats. The guitars on "My Street" and "Success (Nothing Succeeding)" are also reminiscent of early Wedding Present at their Seamonsters-era best. A group who could have a broad appeal, the Oranges Band impress on this short, seven-song EP. ~ Adam Bregman
